PIK2 ORGANIZES COMMUNITY CLEANUP IN 3 AREAS TO PREVENT FLOODING

After successfully collaborating with the local government to initiate the BCU-78 River Cleanup Program, PIK2 has once again stepped in to clean several areas within Teluknaga Sub-District, including Muara Village, Lemo Village, and Tanjung Pasir Village.

This initiative is a form of flood disaster mitigation that can occur at any time. The PIK2 Community Development team, supported by local government officials, carried out a community cleanup simultaneously on Saturday, December 14th, 2024. As explained by Gemawanta Bukit from the PIK2 Project Team, PIK2 also provided assistance by supplying heavy equipment to excavate clogged drainage channels.

This community cleanup aims not only to minimize the risk of flooding in the 3 villages but also to preserve the culture of mutual cooperation that has been installed since the past. It is important to realize that cleaning drainage channels has a significant and sustainable positive impact on the environment. Additionally, this effort seeks to form strategic partnerships to prevent waste from upstream before it flows into the sea.

“For the residents of Muara Village, it is hoped that they will always maintain the environment, especially by not disposing of waste carelessly into the river, as it can cause flooding and lead to an unclean environment. The hope is for the community to be more active in maintaining the environment and keeping it clean, so the area becomes more comfortable,” said H. Moch. Syarifuddin, the Head of Muara Village, during an interview.

It is expected that this initiative will raise public awareness to prevent waste disposal into the river, thereby reducing the volume of waste that has the potential to accumulate in the ocean, particularly in areas that could impact the coastal waters of PIK2.
