MENARA SYARIAH & INCEIF UNIVERSITY SYMPOSIUM (MSIUS) 2024 WAS HELD TO FOCUS ON THE BENEFITS OF WAQF FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

On 8th & 9th August 2024, Menara Syariah and INCEIF University held the Menara Syariah & INCEIF University Symposium (MSIUS) 2024 which was motivated by the intention to encourage collaborative adoption of Islamic financial principles in digital innovation and today’s global challenges.

Held at the Menara Syariah PIK2, this event brought together a group of experts, academics,scholars, and leading practitioners to explore innovative solutions and encourage collaboration in the field of Islamic finance. By uniting Muslim leaders, practitioners and advocates, the event aims to draw on the community’s collective expertise and experience. The aim is to utilize waqf for sustainable development, addressing immediate needs while encouraging long-term resilience and growth.

This symposium presented several of prominent speakers, namely, Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Azmi Omar – President & CEO of INCEIF University, Prof. Dr. Aishath Muneeza, Associate Dean at INCEIF University, Dr. Irfan Syauqi Beik – Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management, IPB University, Yono Haryono – Economic Expert/Deputy Director, Department of Sharia Economics and Finance, Bank Indonesia, Prof. Dr. K.H. Nasaruddin Umar, MA – High Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta, as well as Prof. Dr. Ir. K.H. Mohammad Nuh, DEA – Chairman of the Indonesian Waqf Board for 2 Periods (2027-2021 & 2021-2024).

Quoted from his remarks, Harianto Solichin, Commissioner of PT Fin Centerindo Satu, emphasized that focusing on waqf is not only an important topic, but also the beginning of a transformation. “Today, we are not just discussing waqf; we are also exploring its potential as a foundation for sustainable development and social justice,” said Harianto Solichin. He highlighted the importance of waqf in meeting social, educational and healthcare needs, as well as its relevance in today’s rapidly changing world.

Prof. Muneeza shared her perspective on the partnership between Menara Syariah and INCEIF, noting that the partnership aims to elevate the knowledge and practice of Islamic finance to a higher level. “The Memorandum of Understanding signed between Menara Syariah and INCEIF marks an important milestone in our collaboration. Our common goal is to advance Sharia knowledge and promote innovative solutions in Islamic finance,” explained Muneeza.

As the partnership between Menara Syariah and INCEIF University continues, the focus will remain on advancing sustainable waqaf and exploring innovative solutions in Islamic finance. The partnership between Menara Syariah and INCEIF is a significant step forward in integrating Islamic finance with sustainable development goals.
