THE PROCESSION OF OUR LADY OF AKITA STARTING THE MONTH OF MARY WITH PRAYER AND LIVING FAITH
May is a special month for Catholics, known as the Month of Mary, which is a special devotion time to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. In the spirit of this respect, Our Lady of Akita PIK2 Prayer Garden held a meaningful religious event on Saturday, May 3, 2025, namely the Procession of the Statue of Our Lady accompanied by praying the Rosary and reciting prayers while carrying lit candles, which was then followed by the Holy Eucharist.
This event marked the beginning of a series of devotions during the Month of Mary. The Holy Eucharistic was led by RD Antonius Didit Soepartono, who said that the moments like this are not just annual rituals, but spiritual invitations to imitate Mary's life: a simple woman full of faith, obedient to God's will, and faithful in prayer.
"Mary is a figure who teaches us to continue to pray for others, not just ourselves," said Father Antonius Didit. He added that the presence of Our Lady of Akita's Prayer Garden is a gift to Catholics, a place where people can find peace and strength through prayer, like a spiritual oasis.
More than just a place of pilgrimage, this Prayer Garden is a space for people to encounter God through Mary's intercession. In the procession, people are invited to walk together, not only physically, but also spiritually, stepping in faith, hope, and love.
Father Antonius Didit also expressed his hope that traditions such as processions and recitations will increasingly become part of the people's lives. “Statues are not to be worshipped, but to symbolize the real presence of Mary in the lives of the faithful,” he said.
The Month of Mary is an opportunity for Catholics to renew their commitment to faith through devotion and prayer. And through activities like the one at Our Lady of Akita Prayer Garden, that faith is not only celebrated, but also lived together in a spirit of togetherness.
